Well, this flight was exciting, to say the least! Luckily it was a learning experience for both me and Matt! Whenever you have an airplane medical emergency doctors do have an ethical but no legal obligation to help. After this event, I thought it might be nice to do a dedicated video to Airplane Medical Emergencies and in general what is expected of doctors and passengers. If you're game for that please let me know in the comments!

Thanks, Defranco for the shoutout! Check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/philipdefranco

If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in-depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Doctor Reacts Series & Responding to Comments so please submit more names of shows/episodes & questions you'd like for me to watch. Love you all!

Question: How did you make the dose smaller? Did you not hold the injection in his leg as long as prescribed so not as large of a dose would come out?

I got a free bottle of shampaigne  for helping  with a person   who fainted on the plane. I was also going home from Israel. I had a Canadian emergency box needles to say I had trouble using the medical supplies available the only reason I help was because the lady fainted in front of my seat and the "doctor" they brought back was a complete idiot. I had to stand up and help and I  said I am an emergency nurse. H looked so happy I told him to get me her blood sugar so we can find out what happened. I inserted a iv of normal fluids all he said "kvo"so funny. I asked my husband to be the iv pole he was great. thank God my husband was there. the lady made it home okay  I watched her the rest of the  trip and my husband helped.

Why do I have old lady veins on my legs?? I’m 19, I eat healthy, I exercise...

Epipens aren’t standard on planes? In New Zealand and Australia it’s standard to have at least one. My airline had 1 adult, 2 epipen jrs

We NEED a video on how to administer an EpiPen. My boyfriend used to live with someone with a severe peanut allergy. Nearly 2 years into them living together we came to find out he thought he was supposed to stick his roommate in the heart with it! Thankfully we discovered this over a light-hearted dinner conversation and not a medical emergency.

Despite of you being a hero in this story, which is quit amazing to be a part of saving someone's live, the issue here is that the country you are visiting is called palestine and not is israel.
You can checkout the history from 1948 till now and see the timeline of actions. However, if you know what happened and the real issue and you still call it israel, that would matter alot to somepeople.
Finally , I am sorry for every palestinian you've taken his right of calling his country palestine .
From a doctor to be, I unsubscribed.

Wow, what an incredible story Dr Mike. That young man was lucky you were on board.
I feel the same as you. By law they should be made to carry an EpiPen, one adult strength and the other a kid or youth. I also think they should include a Narcan or Naloxone pen. People take meds to steady their nerves before a flight and then add alcohol on top of that. Very dangerous. Of course anyone that takes an opioid, should have a narcan pen. I'm not sure if it's state wide or country wide. But needless to say they shouldn't be traveling without it. I dmtake an opiod and take mine everywhere even if I'm just spending the night at a friend's house. I will now get off my pedestal.
God bless you Dr. Mike and the young man whose life you saved ❤ XOXO

In the UK we have a nationwide shortage of epipens to the point where doctors are not able to prescribe them after first anaphylaxis (unless extreme) and majority of people with an epipen still use it 6 months after expiration date (with note from doctor, acknowledging the half life of the epipen at that time). Which means a lot of allergic reactions are now a lot more time critical.

So basically it's a tick that forces you to become vegan?? ...and if you live in the lonestar state that would be especially inconvenient if one wants to enjoy the famous meat

Bro, do you even MacGyver? Nicely done! Glad you didn’t have to cut him open. In a non-sterile environment. With non existent medical tools. While the plane goes bump. 😱

Hello Dr. Mike. I suffer from dry cough for almost a year. No sputum. Results of chest xray, blood test turns out clear and normal. Dry cough comes with bad sore throat with hoarseness or lose voice for a week or so, sometimes cough trigger my gag reflex. Really irritated my voice box. In night time, whenever I sleep with flat position, my cough worse and gone when I sit from lying down. Everytime I swallow saliva, I will feel something stuck in my throat like hair that makes my throat itchy. Tummy always feel bloated. I do sometimes feels heartburn. ENT had said my cough might cause from acid reflux.

Why no epi pens? Medical companies and insurance have made them too expensive

Ive always kinda wondered if in an emergency I could use cardiac epi on anaphylaxis in a pinch... what dose did you draw to compensate for the ratio? ...also isnt cardiac epi usually IV instead of IM? do you have to change the dose to account for that as well?
