I guess it’s common sense to blame ppl for eating shit. But why corps are allowed to poison consumers with misleading and harmful ingredient that are banned in most of the world.

Is this also Bill Maher's plan to help solve the opioid crisis? If we shame drug addicts, will they suddenly think, "Goodness, Bill Maher is right? I'll never misuse drugs again?" For people who suffer from addiction, obesity can be one of those addictions. Maher once said in an interview that "addiction never goes away, it just gets replaced." But I get it. Maher is a comedian and he's just doing his routine. I'm sure he doesn't truly believe that shaming fat people will suddenly snap them out of their lifelong struggle with addiction (or depression, or trauma, or anxiety which are also known causes of obesity). I'm not offended by what he said, but I would hope people who see this don't think it's appropriate to start shaming people who are struggling with their weight. Remember, Bill Maher is an entertainer. We have to live in the real world. You should be kind and treat people with respect, regardless of looks, race, sexual orientation, gender, etc. You don't have to like everybody or be their friend. But at least be a decent human being and just treat others with respect.

This might be the realist and most tough love thing ever aired on TV in history and this is coming from someone who needs to lose at least 60 pounds and 80 to be at a healthy level I’ve never really liked Maher but I now respect the hell out of him

Health issues is about you and YOURSELVES

To be honest, I'm overweight, and what bill said definitely open my eyes to take care of my health more seriously rather than making me feel annoyed and miserable, well said bill!

I'm watching this as I'm eating Nerds, Sweetarts, Skittles and pig skins (the kind with actual fat deposits coupled with burnt hair), while smoking, drinking coffee and hitting an e-cig. Meh, doing this for nearly 50 years, don't think I'll change from watching a YouTube video (of course I'm fit, just not healthy LOL)....Oh, what's that shinny video about cats - CLICK -

wonder what he would feel if he fat-shamed someone into depression or suicide? Will it be so funny then?

I only read 12 of these comments and everyone was praising bill. That is messed up and ya people need to loose weight but that doesn’t mean that u have to shame them. That doesn’t help anything. It makes people feel like shit and then things like suicide and depression become an issue and all because you felt the need to step in on someone else’s life without their permission. No one cares what u think and the fact that you think it is ok to bully other people just because you weigh 50 pounds less than them is messed up. There are so many people on here saying “I’m not fat anymore and it changed my life” guys I only weigh 103 pounds that isn’t an excuse to bully someone else. Imagine if u walked through a building and everyone started pointing and laughing at you. How would you feel? Terrible right so why is it so okay to do it to someone else. There is science to obesity and u arrogant jerks don’t realize that there is a gene linked to obesity. Don’t believe me? Look it up. Part of the reason that people are overweight is because they don’t have the money or the recourses to know that they shouldn’t be eating a cheeseburger for every meal. I mean you people are really taking the opinion of an alcoholic who’s whole career is making people feel like shit. If I where to make fun of u on national TV for anything u would be embarrassed. He is abusing his power and he is hurting people mentally and emotionally by promoting bullying.

Bill is a Bully plain and simple. He forgets that when people are poor and don't have time to food prep because they have to commute to work, sitting for an hour or more in stressful traffic, working for self entitled dickwads like him that lack compassion and empathy for others. I encourage you all to eat healthy, yes indeed but shaming anyone for any issues is judgmental and speaks more about YOU and your fears. And your willingness to laugh at another, at their expense is selfish and unkind. Bill Maher is just a Grown up Bully that gets paid very well, but he does cross the line, in my humble opinion. I'm a die-hard liberal and want equality for all. Bill behaves arrogantly and targets marginalized group that are already demonizing by shallow prejudice people. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please be kind to other's as you really don't know what other's burdens may be until you inquire. And that take a caring & considerate person. I wonder if Bill Maher is kind and considerate? Well, his show portrays him as intolerant of the morbidly obese and overweight. Sad that in current times, American really is UNKIND. Thus, Let's Make America Kind Again. Please and thank you.

Eating less food costs less money and exercise is free. No excuses!

Corden left out all the bad effects of being fat that bill stated to make his response valid. Score 1 for Bill.

Only fat people downvoted this

James Corden needs to wake up.

BILL: You don't shop in grocery stores, read labels, or do research, do you? Fat IS a birth defect; actually, it's a survival strategy. But American people buy American food, and American food makes people fat. Being poor makes people fat, and you apparently don't know how hard it is to be poor and healthy, either.
And, finally, you're wrong about shaming: shaming has never worked for anything except to make people feel attacked and for making yourself look like a jerk.
You're officially a jerk now, Bill; not that you weren't already.

What is anybody arguing about???!!! Did you not hear him say an advice should be given agInst the unhealthy status of overweight??? He used fat shaming wording but from his words you can hear a discouragement by awareness and taking resibsability for your own health!!!

Fat people. Stop eating your emotions. It is not healthy. I know so many fat people who want to get in shape, or simply lose weight however they can't because of how embarrassed they are about their weight which in return makes them eat their feelings. Start today. Cut off 1 fast food chain for a week and 1 junk food item you eat for a week. It'll be worth it. I believe in you. 👏💪

I think the fact that Maher pointing out that being unhealthy is something that requires some consideration to fix is translated to ''fat shaming' in America perfectly makes his point. I also saw the Corden response before seeing this and I'm wondering if we both watched the same video now.
But again, this is America...and Americans never miss an opportunity to ride the coattails of someone more logical and rational than they are. Anyone who is offended isn't listening. You're trying to read between the lines on a very literal, succinct argument: Take better care of ourselves as Americans and we'll be healthier, live longer, live better lives and our healthcare won't be so expensive.
And every part of that is 100% accurate. Bravo, Bill.

Your ignorance is showing, Bill.

I agree with him on making better choices in diet 100%
That was his point. The rest are just a little too sensitive or have very weak will power or believe they have a very weak will power and want to create an environment where nothing is wrong if they continue to make those bad diet decisions.

I agreed with most of what Bill said. But shaming people won't lead to better behaviors, it will just further push those who aren't motivated, to extend their unhealthy behaviors further. I don't know about anyone else, but I have never seen when calling someone a fat ass made them feel positive and motivated to change their lives.

Well, as a retired nurse I can tell you that thin people have EXTREMELY bad diets too. I see people drinking alcohol, smoking, and not eating. But this is ok because they stay slim? I had a whole career helping THIN and Fat people. Guess what, they also have huge issues. Approximately 400,000 people died last year, approx 100,000 of them were obese! So Then 300000 thin people died. So the problem MUST be thinness? What a stupid way to address a problem Bill!

Mr Maher uses his genius wit to get his points across & in case you missed the point of this-- he's advocating for being HEALTHY.

I don't find this offensive at all. I am guilty of overeating and then I complain about my weight, but I need to make better choices, and that is all he is saying. If I am going to eat more than I burn, then I need to burn more. POOR DIET IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF MORTALITY IN THE US. There is it. Science.

No, the govt down there made laws more leanient toward where businesses could set up, even if it meant burning the Amazon in flames. We can bitch about fat people all we want, but the govt could have just restrained from corporate blowjobs. We as a majority, fat or not can agree that we can sacrifice the over production of meat to help us all; but guess what, you shat on the green new deal. You no longer can call yourself liberal or supportive of progressives. Or aka, say one thing, then totally say something contradictory. Someone, from any political spectrum, fucking rip Bill a new ahole.

Wait, vegans are also to blame for the Amazon burning? Those soybeans vegans need to 🛑 eating plants

Well said, 100% agree! This was totally taken out of context...

Fat shaming helped me lose 100 lbs and probably saved my life. Overhanging gut to defined abs. Fast food every day to vegan and daily exercise. And it was the fact that beautiful women who I knew were kind, wouldn't talk to me. 5 years later I'm engaged and very grateful for a few dirty looks at the pool that gave me a reason to make better choices. Thanks Bill

Totally agree with Bill!

He told the truth and said that people would be mad. Looked what happened.

Shut up Corden. You’re fat.

Being an overweight guy, I fully support bill on this video. He said the truth with mixing of sarcasm which is his style. If you don't understand the sarcasm part then it's your problem like overeating.
