House takes another huge risk on a diagnosis that can potentially cause him to catch Smallpox

Season 7 Episode "A Pox On Our House"
A teenage girl (Hayley Chase) comes to the hospital displaying classic smallpox symptoms, which the team dismisses as impossible until her step-father (Andrew Fiscella) gets sick as well. Once the CDC intervenes and isolates the patients, the team is unable to explore any further until House takes a life-threatening risk.

House: I'm going in, it's not smallpox!

few hours later

House: GET ME OUT, IT'S SMALLPOX!

Wait, this whole operation was your idea

Imagine It was smallpox and House just dies. Big F

I always assumed if it was THAT serious of a disease they would walk in and pull the gun from the suitcase and stop the epidemic right there

That red haired girl was so annoying lol

This show makes me even more hesitant of doctors than I already am

"you didn't see smallpox. BECAUSE IT WASN'T THERE!"

"I've heard it's the equivalent of a slight plague, so if you're overdue..."

That doctor was a bigger asshole than house ever has been.

I didn't think it was possible.
But the difference is House had the brains and skill to back it up. That guy was simply an ass that thought he knew better than everyone else while house KNEW what he was doing

A lot of people complaining about the gloves and bleach, but almost no one seems to have called out the fact that House apparently can't change an oxygen bottle without contamination.

For contrast, the gas masks issued to AFC/PFCs in the military have two cheek nozzles because even a 19 year old high school dropout who barely passed basic is expected to be able to handle a simple sterile filter swap in under a minute.

As soon as I came out, I'd punch the idiot from the cdc

Good thing he took of his gloves so he could.... roll over the body and keep looking at the body..
that was some dumb writing.

How did the human race not get wiped out by smallpox?
1000 people get exposed, 600 get sick & recovery, 200 die, 200 don't catch it at all.
The survivors who aren't badly crippled have kids.
Those kids have some resistance to smallpox.
Every few years the Pox would mutate enough for another outbreak.
Another human generation gets sorted out in the great immunity carnival.
Do that enough times, Pox is no longer the certain death it once was.
Vaxxing lets everyone survive, including people for whom the Pox would have been lethal.
This susceptibility to Pox can be passed down to your kids, the same way that resistance can be passed down.
I am not anti-vax, but I have questions.

My great grandfather contracted smallpox when he was a young teen in the late 1890's....badly.

I remember my grandmother recounting what my great grandfathers mother told her about the horrible blisters. There were so many of them on his body that when she would change his bloody & puss stained bedsheets the dried blister-scabs would fly off onto the floor making a disturbing click-clacking sound which she would then have to sweep up.

Back then smallpox was basically a death sentence were you'd die isolated in a infirmary, but they chose to take care him themselves in a seperate barn on there property. Luckily she didn't get It as well. He survived it miraculously!

people who worked on farms tended to contract cowpox at some point in their life which offered protection from smallpox. could be because of that. either way that sounds like a horrible thing to go through.

0:24 he looks so much like Alex Lewis - “the man without lips”

Why are they dying of rickettsialpox when it's not a fatal disease? Weird

So we're supposed to believe that guy died within the space of 18 hours of developing symptoms? Ok............

@Jermbot15 That's the part that confused me. He's dying of smallpox yet he had escars that apparently proves he has R. Pox? Even if you had R. Pox and kidney cancer as well, you probably aren't going to die from smallpox in 18 hours, probably more like a few days although it's not entirely unbelievable.

Also, another thing I don't get is that as far as we know, the guy didn't have any problems with his kidneys but as soon as he gets smallpox apparently the cancer is so bad it's causing kidney haemorrhaging? I know episodes can't be 4 hours long so they have to cut things down but it just sounds a bit unbelievable.

An undiagnosed recurrence of kidney cancer left him immune compromised, which ironically caused him to contract a serious infection from the smallpox vaccine. For smallpox they use a live sample of a related disease called Vaccinia which will just cause a normal person to get a mild infection that is normally asymptomatic but can cause a small rash and fever. Since he had no immune system it compounded the problems he had from the R. Pox.

Cool
I already had smallpox so I would be ok
Interesting , in country im from no one is vaccinated against smallpox. Usually you get them like a small kid and get over it.

Yes , you are right , sorry 😳
In czech language its Pravé neštovice . ( The Great pox)
Thats why it confused me when they said " Smallpox"

This clip makes Foreman and the CDC guy look really backwards in their logic. "Will it kill us? No, will it save House? Also no." Like, cmon Foreman I get that House is an abrasive guy but giving up for such a unbelievably flimsy retort is so, well, flimsy. XD
