John Carpenters Second best film is one of my all time faves, lets nerd out about it, make Six Demon Bag, and try some Baiju.

**********************************

Oh man do I love this movie. It's so incredibly weird and wonderful and full of crazy 80's special effects, and demons, ghosts, vampires, lich's, bugbears, beholders... a veritable Monstrous Manual of wild stuff in here. Plus we've got Jack Bower, portrayed by Kurt Russell basically doing a goofball version of John Wayne but with a semi-truck. It's got Dennis Dun, James Hong, Victor Wong, Donald Li, and of course Kim Cattrall... Magic! Monsters! Adventure! And it's all in the reflexes...

Stranger Things Season 3 has me thinking about the movies I grew up, and John Carpenter, specifically Big Trouble, feature large in my mind at the moment. In the scene before the Big Battle of this movie, Egg Shen, played by Victor Wong, prepares our heroes for battle with a "medicine" that most fans of the film call Six Demon Bag (I point out in this episode that that's not really right, but it doesn't matter) so they can enjoy a "Big Buzz" also, maybe see things other people don't see? It's not very clear. Anyway, I thought it was time I take a stab at making my own Six Demon Bag, and here it is.

Six Demon Bag
.5 oz. -or- 15 ml. Pineapple Juice
1 oz. -or- 30 ml. Lime Juice
Two Dashes of Elemakule Tiki Bitters
.5 oz. -or- 15 ml. Ginger Syrup
.75 oz. -or- 22 ml. Baijiu
2 oz. -or- 60 ml. Appleton Estate 12 year Rum
Shake and decant with Dry Ice
Serve up

I don't know if you can make a drink on it, but there is a forgotten gem, circa 70s I think, called bugsy malone. Starring a kid Scott Baio and Jodie Foster. Which was a musical. About 1920s prohibition gangsters. Played by little kids. It's pure wtf, but real fun with great songs. Look it up, it's a fun watch.

Sorghum is a type of molasses so that sickeningly sweet smell you couldn't put your finger on was most likely molasses

Enjoying the video. The flavor I most identify baijiu with is a liquorice, or anise.

FYI, the wet dog flavor in baiju is from a deep dive into the tails portion of the distillation. Western distillers avoid those notes in the tails and make more conservative cuts, but cultures and tastes differ greatly. To an Eastern palate that may be yummy. Who knows?

@ohyeaah111 because the sweetness is the only good thing about its taste.

Dude, whenever you mention the words 'Dungeons and Dragons' you sure win me. So nice to see you bringing old stuff to your show. Keep rocking ;)

I like the slow zoom at 7:00, nice touch keeping the "tasting notes" onscreen.

Dude, my dog loves these

I just finished reading Dune and would love if you did a take on spice liquor, could be a good way to use cinnamon in a non-Christmas drink.

Wet dog is classic "tails" descriptor and heat/chemical is "heads" sounds like they just rushed some kind of fermented "thing" through a still and made little to no cuts.

Dry ice in that tea kettle would make for a great Aladdin themed cocktail. Like a genie coming out of the lamp?

Many years ago, a friend came to a "sukiyaki party" bearing tiny bottles from Chinatown San Francisco. This was served in thimble-sized cups, and can only be described as "herbal nail polish remover." And make you very, very intoxicated on very little. I heard the stuff was banned by the FDA shortly thereafter, as it contained toxic components.

Nice video, dude. BTW, the liquor you used in the video - the "Moutai Prince" is actually an entry-level model of Kweichow Moutai and it is a blended baijiu. In Mainland China, low-end blended baijiu is usually used as seasoning liquor in kitchen and the "unblended" Moutai baijiu (probably called "Moutai Feitian", about $190 in US) is a popular liquor for banquet.

Did the post-production guy have a couple of these before he did the captions?

"This tastes just like the smell of those English sheepdogs."

Sounds delightful..

Would Absinthe give that whole "makes you see things" like he says in the scene??

12:28 is the coolest clip from the whole video. The smoke circle when Greg lifts the class was pretty sweet! Nice camera work.

You could pass for Vincent D'Onofrio's brother and this pleases me.

Make a Dark and Stormy. Just cuz you said "Dark and Stormy night" XD hahaha It just happens to be Matt Mercer's Favourite drink. You threw a D&D reference, and now so have I. Do it.

A movie related drink recommendation for you: the Aqua Velva Jake Gyllenhaal drinks in the movie Zodiac.

YOU'RE STALLING!!! DRINK THAT SHIT ALREADY!!!

My wife has the same tea kettle, guess I’ll be borrowing that lol

Baijiu goes well with green plum( Ume plum), please give it a try!

So there are actually two types of Baiju, the bathtub variety. And a high class variety that's closer to 40% and smells more like rosewater and other lighter smelling things.

I love the movie, not to sure about the drink.

The chinese family I was with for small time preferred calling it maotai instead of Baijiu. Shit be strong and will make ya warm that's for sure, the guy kept downing them and I could only drink like two shots.

You mean you can buy Baiju? You don’t get it from your Chinese grad student roommate in an unlabeled glass bottle?

I do not drink alcohol, but I really like your channel! It's an entertaining and educational show. Great job

"Wet dog but like NICE wet dog" is just saying that, while it DOES smell like a wet dog, it's a wet dog that you still want to cuddle with so you just try to ignore the smell and get puppy cuddles.

Speaking of the 80s, Can we get a Brewed Gyokuro Tea, from yakuza 0?

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail was "is that a box art for double dragon?"
Big trouble in little China
Same thing...

"What more can a guy ask for"

Greg, if you want to say 白酒/ baijiu better, “bye Joe” is a lot closer than what you were saying

You need a WI girl to help with your tasting notes. Women, because they are for more eloquent than us males and WI because drinking is a state sport.

What’s WI?
