My Newfoundland puppy named Bear was attacked last week at the dog park and I wanted to share with you the story because it truly scared me. After the incident, I went home and looked into what is the proper protocol if two dogs fight or if a dog attacks you.

This is the first of my Wednesday checkup series where I can feel free to chat with you guys and cover some interesting and timely topics.

In this video, I explained the best ways on how to stop a dog fight and what to do if a dog is to suddenly attack you.

that's why you carry a scalpel
so you can cut the dog's throat if its attacking you or someone else

From what i can tell you about your tips never stand sideways when facing an aggressive dog, stand firm and stay there until the dogs relax's.

There’s no bad dogs, there’s BAD OWNERS! I can not stress this enough & people will LITERALLY blame anyone else BUT THEM, IT REALLY STRESS ME OUT.

The safest way to break up a dog fight is to beat the f*** of the other dog

Another thing you can do ( i know this from being a dog trainer) is if a dog has hold of you use one of your hands and put a finger up its bum. The shock and pain will make the dog let go every time without fail.... this also workings for police dogs

Goldens are amazing dogs- i had one for 12 years and loved him immensely.
That being said, my dog had a tendency to attack male dogs for no reason. And at one point he attacked a 4month unsupervised puppy after 15 minutes of "play with me, play with me" attitude from a puppy who had sharp teeth and nipped him around his mouth.
I took both dogs to vet, for a check-up, and then found out that Goldens have a gene that makes them attack suddenly. Apparently, there is a variety of breeds suffering from this....
sudden onset of aggression or something like that.... Point is when it comes to certain shepherds, hounds, pinches, and Danes be careful. They are the most likely to have this gene and these behavioral problems- they don't show them often, but when they do they are vicious.

I had to pin my dog cuz he ran off the street and was gonna get hit by a car he bit a little at my wrist but when I screamed in pain, he looked me in the eye and let go then look down at my wrist as it was bleeding a little and he actually looked pretty sad and would not eat for the rest of the day

Golden retrievers are definitely an aggressive breed. In my 29 years of dog ownership/ going to dag parks I've never met a Golden that was friendly. In fact, yesterday I saw a Golden attack it's owner at the park.

I know someone who got bit by a dog a while ago, and it really is important to go to the doctor or the ER if you get bit. This person had at least three puncture wounds and needed stitches :(

I hope she was able to better train and keep her dog. it's always sad when we lose pets, even if they try to kill you.

I have a great Pyrenees and a pit bull. He (Pyrenees) doesn't like strangers, very protective. She (pit bull) loves people, terrible guard dog, but great with kids. He was trying to threaten a visited through the back door (its mostly windows). She litterally JUMPS on his back after he starts growling. They start fighting.

I learned that day, smashed their dog dish against the door frame. They both froze and were fine from then on.

The best thing you can do for your animals is TRAIN them well! If you don't they will most likely get hurt, hurt you and get out down.

My chow doesn't show aggression until he's had enough at the last second. When we go for walks he'll look at me for "stay" palm. But when a dog approaches us barking he'll start huffing, but still stay close. He has a loud bark and one is usually all it takes after staying quiet.
The blanket WORKS. I used my jacket though when a pit bull came up and bit my buddy on his backside. She pulled off fast and by that time I was between the dogs. I slapped my walking stick on the sidewalk several times and the dog backed off. Her owner came out right after with "You better not have hit her!" "Luckily, I didn't have to". A patrol car came around and the cop gave me the "move along" gesture and a nod. I turned the corner and that's all I knew. I haven't seen that pit since. She was pretty too 😢

Another big piece of advice: Please, Please, Please, DO NOT take off your dog’s collar/harness when going out into a public space with them. You could give me every excuse possible and I still wouldn’t think it’s a valid reason to take it off. I speak as someone who’s dog was attacked by another dog who wore no collar at the dog park. My dog was trying to tell the other one to back off and give her space, the other dog ignored her. They got into it. I saw this woman come in and her dog was wearing a harness. Why did she take it off? I’m not trying to be mean when I say this, but this woman was older and overweight, and clearly had no way of getting control of her dog. She was trying to grab it by the folds of its neck. Meanwhile, my dad and I had already pulled our dog away as soon as the fight started cause she HAD. ON. HER. COLLAR. The other dog was still trying to get back at our dog while the woman failed to get any kind of control. The other people there had to help her hold the dog and get the harness back on, she left immediately. My dog wasn’t hurt thankfully and the worst to come out of it was a small scratch on the other dog’s nose with some blood. And that may not have even happened if this woman had just left the harness on. And also, if you know your dog has a problem with aggression, please don’t set them lose in a dog park. If you have to, drive by and see if anyone is there, if you’re alone then fine, but don’t potentially put other people and other dogs in danger. Take your dog for a long walk, play with them at home, find another park that’s not very popular so there will be less people, there are alternatives to simply hoping your dog won’t start a fight with anyone at the dog park. I’ve been bitten by a dog when I tried to throw a ball for them, it’s not fun. Avoiding those situations keeps your dog and other people safe.

What is that supposed to mean "at the end of the day its a golden retriever"
