Please welcome my good friend and Cuban brother— Dr. Luis Espina M.D. to Wednesday Checkup! You asked in my recent responding to comments video if starting medicine as a second career is a good idea and I got the best person to answer that question for you directly. Luis is a passionate fellow and loves anything he sets his mind to. He actually pursued medical school as a 2nd or even third career and in this videos he shares his highs and lows. Please enjoy this video and let me know if you’d like me to have him back for more like this!

Tune in this Sunday for a very special review of Grey’s Anatomy!!!

If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Doctor Reacts Series & Responding to Comments so please submit more names of shows/episodes & questions you'd like for me to watch. Love you all!

My wife just graduated nursing school at 43. She has been a teacher for a long time and just had a huge change of heart.

I'm 38 and working on pre reqs to apply for nursing school. I have worked in the financial industry since graduating college in 2005... I was nervous to start over so late in life but I absolutely love learning about the human body. My A&P professor is in his last year of surgical residency and has been very encouraging to me to continue to pursue nursing. Thank you for this video, it is always encouraging to know that I'm not the only one starting "over" in thier late 30's. I also feel the fear, especially since most students in my class are between 19-23. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Next year I'm graduating from med school and I'm gonna be 28 and sometimes I feel a bit old compared to my classmates haha because most of them are graduating at the age of 23-24 and watching this video is really nice

I always wanted to be a doctor and he hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately I missed that due to having to put my family first. Now they are all grown and gone and I am on my own. I am 58 and in 8 months into an 18 month accelerated nursing program. I may never be a doctor but I love what I am learning. Clinicals are amazing and I already have a part time job in an ER. WHOOT WHOOT! It’s just in the blood! Thanks for the video, it was inspiring and yes Mike I watch your videos often! But this one you got upstaged by your elder! Lol....

My husband started his med school at the age of 34, and I've been supporting my husband since he decided to go to the med school. He starts his second year in a month, and he is super excited about the whole journey :D

Oh my gosh this video is what I imagine myself to be in a fair few years from now. I am currently a 17 year old who is stuck between studying biomedical engineering and medicine. This guy did them both😂😂😂

This is my first time to comment to a youtube video, and I am very encouraged to take MIT next year even if it is not related to med haha. My spirit is lifted to never stop learning and realized that it will not be easy but it will be worth it at the end.
