a masterpiece.

I would love to see him work with Isabelle Huppert. What a fantastic pairing that would be!

Ari is such a sweetheart

i remember watching this and feeling completely immersed in the film to the point where I realized at one point in the film my fist had bench clenched so tightly for about 15 minutes that my hand was starting to hurt. This has never happened to me before. This was a new feeling for me that has never happened before while watching a horror film.

his description of how he felt after watching Carrie perfectly matches my experience after watching Hereditary......

It's hard to believe Hereditary was made by a first time director, it's so effective, it opens up so much conversation too. Was that a PT reference, the picture of Peter with the eyes cut out, on the attick floor, near the end?? It HAS to be, the two best horror works in each medium, in years or maybe ever?

Glad to know that Ari is okay.

This movie hit me in a way I never expected while going in. I literally broke down at one point it got to me so deeply. Hell of a first feature. Can’t wait for his next

Also, the low pulsing sound I thought might be delta waves to be honest, which I thought had something to do with a deep sleeping state.

Aster is a towering, shining beacon of hope in the otherwise barren horror world. Hereditary was nothing short of a masterpiece, and undoubtedly my favourite horror movie. I can't wait for Midsommar.

its true. i hadnt seen a decent horror film in years, then i watched hereditary and got a masterpiece. the subtlety, the gradual buildup; i cant wait to see what ari aster produces in the future.
i think a lot of horror films being made today, all films really; rely too much on what came before and what was successful before. watching a generic 2010-2018 horror film is like watching a badly put together mashup of tropes and cliches from previous horror films. hereditary was something different, something with vision. a startling light shone upon the nature and origin of evil.

Ya'll are weak if you found this movie scary. I am still in search of that one movie that will make me feel a tiniest sense of danger and dread. I heard so much about this I thought from all the people saying how terrifying it was that I'd run out in middle of it screaming for my mom.

this was one of the best horror films modern day

Fantastic movie. Shockingly good and went in a direction that I never expected.

Well, namedropping "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" means I'll be following Mr. Aster's career from here on out.

I'm wondering if Ari would consider a werewolf film- providing he takes his notes from John Landis's An American Werewolf In London...

Will never ever EVER respect him as a filmmaker since he chose to make Strange Thing About the Johnsons. Most perverted, pointless movie I've ever seen and has absolutely no character development

The sub drum was, besides all the agony and pain in the plot, the thing that made me so uneasy. I really felt anxious as soon as I felt that sub drum. I’m glad I watched it with friends because I would never be able to finish watching it all by myself.

it's very hard for a director who has never shot a movie to find the funds for him, he had some compromises, so it seems to me at least, but it could have been a cult film but then he would not make alot of movie like david lynch, tarantino but it seems to me he want to make alot of movies and probably he would i take my hat of for ari who had gabriel byrne in his first motion picture in support role with toni collete in lead role

Jian is, was, and always will be irreplaceable. This interviewer guy is completely lost, and seems generally rather uneducated and not that witty or smart. Jian was on another level.

Watched this movie for the first time last night and I honestly love it. Great creepy movie. I had to sleep with a lamp on haha

This movie operates as more than a “horror” movie. It’s a legitimately good movie, and can even work as a drama.

me and the woman who hangs out in the corner of my ceiling thought the movie was really creepy

This was definitely one of the most scary movies I’ve ever seen. The acting was insanely good and I felt the real pain and terror and it was terrifying

Best movie of the year so far, I have seen it 4 times and just purchased the DVD. I don't know why I am obsessed with this film, maybe I'm possessed?

D J let’s watch it 10 more times!

Ι honestly thought I was immune to horror films after watching so many cheap, popcorn-horror movies.
Every film seemed to disrespect the viewer using horror movie cliches again and again,
like jump scares, creepy children and characters you don't care about and can't sympathize with, who take obviously wrong decisions .
I am so happy I watched this film and remembered how it feels to be thrilled by a horror movie!
I also love that I wasn't sure what the theme of the movie was exactly before watching it; social drama, or paranormal horror movie?
I miss so much watching a movie without having it being spoiled by the movie's marketing campaign.

I hope Ari does space horror at some point!!!

This guy's a great interviewer! I gotta find more Tom Power stuff.

Hereditary is my all time list for sure. Best horror film since The Witch and It Follows.

Just watched this movie yesterday and it is haunting me like no other horror movie did.
