The former Daily Show host delivered an emotional and scathing statement to Congress over its handling of benefits for 9/11 first responders and victims. Stewart testified before the House judiciary committee on Tuesday alongside first responders and victims, but only a handful of politicians appeared at the hearing, prompting a visibly angry Stewart to condemn their treatment of survivors. The comedian, who has repeatedly lobbied for legislation to codify the health benefits into law, called the inaction ‘an embarrassment to the country’.

Both Democrats and Republicans are useless. Reason I will never vote most politicians are corrupt. America will fall into a Oligarchy.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is the list of subcommittee members that were missing during the testimony. The subcommittee has 14 members.

The subcommittee members who were MIA when Stewart and Alvarez spoke include Republican members who were missing during their testimony were: Louie Gohmert of Texas, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, Ben Cline of Virginia and Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota.

The Democratic Reps. who were missing during their testimony were: Eric Swalwell of California, Madeleine Dean of Pennyslvania, and Sylvia Garcia, Veronica Escobar and Sheila Jackson, all of Texas. Swalwell is running for president.

Having an annoyingly hard time finding out which members of Congress didn't come to the hearing.

wtf, doesn't the US allocate billions for defense from their own budget? if you have the money to fight terrorists, you really should fund the healthcare needed for those who dealt with the aftermath of a terrorist attack

This scene is probably one of the best examples of the group of hypocrites who call themselves representatives , congressmen etc.,who claim to always have the public’s best interest in their hearts when the truth is after the cameras stop filming and the press has left these politicians will be sitting in their office , sleeves rolled up and feet on the table and probably another member or two with the first guy , all 3 would have some sort of whiskey but most usually have bourbon so to sum it all up , you have these assholes who will be cracking jokes about the first responders , as usual a little bit of name calling would be mentioned but basically it’s just another day for you and me in paradise , that would be the most these guys would be willing to go. Mitch McConnell is there in Washington because that’s the most practical place to be in if you want to milk the government not to mention anything about his wife Elaine Chao?

It takes understanding to feel like this

When your a powerful member of Congress in the room thinking you are in power, then you end up getting told off like a child.

Yeah but how will they raise the money for all these first responders?

Oh you want a ninth war on another continent? Here's another trillion dollars for you!

Wow, this is great 👍 if only your politicians were of this calibre !

What do you expect from corrupt and greedy politicians who only care about themselves and their bank balances.

I have watched these events unfold from across the Atlantic as a UK citizen and I completely understand how many Americans might feel ashamed of what has happened here, however, I would like to offer some consolation.

The fact that this man has been afforded both the right and the opportunity to be heard and to take his government to task on this issue is something that all Americans CAN be proud of.

Furthermore, this man's laudable efforts have not been in vain. It is my understanding that Congress will be making the necessary changes in order to continue to help those brave and selfless first responders.

I would therefore urge all Americans to at least take pride in your system and in what has finally been achieved here.

Best wishes from across the Atlantic.
