The 2019 iMac, particularly the 21.5 inch 4K retina model is a surprisingly great value. Just don't buy the base model! Thanks to VARIDESK for sponsoring this video! • Learn more about VARIDESK by visiting http://www.VARIDESK.com/JonathanMorrison

My review of the new 21.5" iMac comparing the quad-core i3/555X model vs the six-core i5/560X. Enjoy!

if you're looking to buy a new 🖥 here's the one you should buy!

Fuck you! I gonna buy 5 and destroy 3 and shove one up your ass and use the last one in my study room.

Hi. While the cpu selection is straight forward, but is it a better deal to upgrade from rx to vega?

nah my current imac works fine... has apple ever gonna shrink that bezel..?

can i ask a serious question? i'm considering trading in my 2017 5k imac and getting the refreshed 13"mbp. thoughts? the only reasons i'd want to hang on to the imac is for the 27" 5k display, no t2 chip, and user upgradeable RAM; but there are so many other things going against the imac. i would like to think apple is going to refresh it sometime in the next year? or less? the looks are dated, which i don't care that much about in and of itself, but if a redesign comes with upgraded I/O, that's something I'd want. It's also got the same old ass BT, not even an option for 10gig ethernet (not that I can make the most of it, but it's like a $90 upgrade on the mac mini), the vega 48 seems like an overpriced and lackluster upgrade, and they leave so much empty space on the inside, which could have been used for a secondary fan(????), which would seem like a smart idea for a computer with heat issues... desktops are going out of fashion, and mobile productivity is the present and the future. But I still do enjoy the desktop experience. I figure that with a MBP + TB3hub + egpu + external storage, I can get similar performance (if I go for the 15"), plus portability.

As far as why i'm looking at the 13" mbp is because I can almost trade them for each other straight up (maybe a few hundred on top for upgraded RAM and SSD). Ideally I'd like the MBP 15" with the vega 20 and 32gb RAM and a larger SSD thanks to the price drops. But because of the nightmare stories I've seen relating to the keyboard and thermal throttling, it seems like a big risk to spend that much money on a laptop, especially with the rumors of a new MBP with a keyboard going back to the scissor mechanism... even if it ends up being in an even higher tier pricewise. Also, the vega 20, while better than the radeon pro, is still pretty underwhelming.

Should I just wait to see what Apple releases for new imacs or mbps? The problem with this is that my trade in value is going to sink fast.

No I'm not a "power user", but if I'm going to invest this kind of money on a computer, I want it to have a little more longevity.

To be honest, I've had a hard on for the MBP for a while, but the price to performance seems... blehhhh... plus the aforementioned throttling issues and crap keyboard (tbh i like typing on it, but i dont want to deal with having to get it repaired all the time).

I'm so torn.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

"Let me know by dropping a like"

The Mac interface has to be the most counterintuitive, cumbersome, and slow system ever marketed. My 1995 model 486 PC was WAYYY faster than my brand new imac. Other than itunes, every single progam on my imac is the laughing stock of the industry. ha ha ha Stick to PC and Office, where at least the formatting is widely recognized. Buying an imac is the single most regrettable purchase of my life.

Which iMac did you buy...?

I'm planning to buy (Customize iMac) mainly for music production but I might also use it for video editing, I wanted to know what if i have to choose from two options like:

3.6GHz 8-core 9th-generation / 8GB RAM / Radeon Pro 580X with 8GB of GDDR5 memory / 1TB SSD .

OR

3.7GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz / 8GB RAM / 1TB SSD

with Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB of HBM2 memory

Which one is the best choice ?

I'm going to upgrade Ram by myself later in both options.
So basically I'm confuse between (3.6GHz 8-core & Radeon Pro Vega 48)

Thanks

27inch base model 3.0GHz imac, is it enough for video and photo editing?or do I need to upgrade the SSD and RAM myself?

@Satya Yaya I don't know exactly how to do that. My Macbook Pro and iMac were perfectly calibrated out of the box. But if you need to calibrate, you can go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Calibrate. However, I don't know if that will fix your issue. Also, I just wanted to say that if you're going to purchase a new 27" iMac, I would highly recommend getting an SSD. You can always upgrade the RAM later. I hope this helps.

@myroboticmind and do you know how to calibrate macbook screen so it can match my phone?

Sadly, you can't upgrade the hard drive. With the 27", you can upgrade the RAM though. I can edit 4k footage on my 2012 MacBook Pro in FInal Cut Pro as long as I use proxies. I hope this helps.

Would you rather, Have a 1TB 5400-rpm Hard Drive, or have a very fast 128GB SSD. Reply for 1TB HDD, or Like for 128GB SSD.

But now the real question is this imac or the new base macbook pro?

the only thing that holding me from buying an iMac till this point is because they still use HDD instead of SSD.
C'mon apple, Even if it's only SATA SSD I will buy one!

Apple is always right !!!

No one should go for a fusion/hybrid drive. Either go for an SSD, or go for an SSD.

The iMacs should finally come with touchbar keyboards.

I think the Fusion Drive is a great compromise. I’m using it on my iMac and since the HDD is paired to an SSD the computer feels significantly faster

SSD are not expensive anymore, but Apple has a other option on this topic =D

am getting a used 2015 5k 27inch imac for 1300euro :D

How the i5 is able to keep up with the i9 in the MacBook pro is beyond me. I'm looking at an iMac and was thinking that for some Final Cut and more intensive programs I'd need to go all out, but clearly all I need is the i5 and the 560X

it is still by no means ugly... it’s actually gorgeous, but it needs to move with the times... we’ve loved and still love this design but let’s make something new...

Hi Jonathan, can you do a comparison, lets say import RAW images into Lightroom ( lets say 1000 ) export same amount as Jpegs 300dppi and seperate as Tiff. To be compared against all 32 Ram, but different Cores. In this way to get a Time versus $$ value.

Anyone else use the Samsung T5 with their IMac with 1TB fusion drive? Any problems configuring it? How do you backup your computer if you are using external memory?

You never want to go back to 21" if you worked on a 27" iMac

I know... but the 27” is pretty expensive in comparison to the 21,5” model
