That's cool but you know what it also is?

TOO MUCH WORK!!

The immediate predecessor to the 3 b+ the regular 3b might have been a better choice it's still powerful enough and it's power consumption needs are way lower.

aren't wireless peripherals illegal?

Pretty pointless

Good luck convincing the Airport security who sometimes even don't allow Water bottles to carry in flight

iPad cheaper

Isn´t that the sole purpose of an iPad?

Why not just use a firestick or something

Bitwit, you used Raspbian?
Did you realize that OSMC is an option?

It's a distro of Kodi (formerly XBMC, named the Xbox Media Center, for the platform it initially ran on, despite having to be modded).

It runs quite well and looks good. I really think you should give it a try.

this seems like something an surface go or ipad could achieve with a strap

Whenever I fly, I bring my ipad with the flip cover. The leather of the flip pad squeezes tight behind display, and my ipad screen would lie perfectly over the entertainment system. I get a better screen, better music quality, and a lot of envious looks when I start watching better content than other passengers. No need for all this BS.

VR headset with phone in Aiplane mode with Bluetooth headphones or earbuds ?? I guess this was " I was borred a day berfore my flight ?' kinda video?

you could have downloaded a kodi image, and just used that.... load your movies on a usb drive, and, away you go.... I used to use kodi on all my tv's with raspberry pi's, works great, especially with "local" media. Also, raspberry pi cases can be had for under $20, sometimes less than $10... so..., the altoid tin case, is good, if you want the altoid tin case..., otherwise....
I have a raspberry pi display (7"), which is touch screen, so, when I run kodi on it, I don't need any periphrials.... run the charger into the battery pack, and the pack into the pi/display, and your golden....
In fact, I have been considering putting a raspberry pi in the semi, connected to the truck stereo, as a media player, audio for driving, video for sitting....

There i watched it. are you happy now youtube?

If memory serves, doesn't the raspberry pi have a 3.5mm audio out, why not just plug it to the input on the QC35? On the idea itself, while I kinda like that of this bodged together Frankenstein from stuff that you already had, It's probably a better idea, from a money and experience POV, to spend the money on a mid tier tablet if starting from scratch. Just the price of display and pi could buy a Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) after a quick scroll on Amazon

Is it just me or..? Lithium batteries (especially 20,000mAh) are not allowed to be used on planes. They can be taken on, but NOT used. And I've never been on a plane with a proper power outlet, only USB. Hmm.

So the fact that you have a much larger screen isn't as obvious as the screen sticking out? :)

More on being noticed, didn't the cabin crew didn't ask you to remove the screen as it was attached to the entertainment console on the seat. How about your seatmate (assuming it wasn't someone you were with), didn't they get at least envious that you had that much real estate to watch your media with aside from having your preferred shows/movies on hand. Worst of all, call the attention of the cabin crew to ask how much to add to get the same screen. Hahaha

Personally I just use my tablet instead of the inflight entertainment. The selection on there, while relatively updated, I've mostly watched already or don't want to watch. Having the thing mounted on the inflight screen does interest me though. I'd have my hands free to eat or to just totally relax. Great video!
