Here are my thoughts on Billie Eilish being an "industry plant" and the term in general.

Just because the industry has been doing it for a long time doesn't mean its right.  I don't think the backlash is because she had advantages, I think its because her image is a lie.  I have also heard she has taken credit in interviews for songs she did not write.  Oh well, she is pop, in 2 years everyone will say "Billie who"?

This article talks about her background. Judge for yourself if you think she’s an industry plant 🌱. Her brother did have good connections and that’s why Ocean Eyes blew up. https://www.google.se/amp/s/www.buzzfeednews.com/amphtml/pdominguez/is-billie-eilish-really-that-weird

She's graduated from the casting couch pretty early.

Has she had advantages others haven't? Absolutely. However, we are acting like this doesn't happen in Hollywood EVERY DAY. Look at Miley Cyrus! Her career came because of her dad. Ariana Grande was a wealthy child with connections who got on tv and then got handed a record deal. etc Hell even actors have this happen all the time. Joaquin Phoenix got famous because of his brother River and their mother worked for NBC. Just look up all the celebrities out there who had connections before success. At least half of Hollywood has. In comparison, Billies connections were weak. Not to mention, you could be a billionaire with all the connections in the world and that cannot buy your success. If that were the case, Paris Hilton would be all over the radio station. She is a flop. Because people don't want to hear her. You can buy press, but you cannot buy dedicated fans.

Not saying she is or isn’t but you can’t ignore the fact that artists can be manufactured ... given the right sound, the right beats, right coaching, right stylist, marketing .... etc.

Of course she is, just look who her family is. I agree though, doesn't mean her music sucks...doesn't mean it's good either. Taylor Swift is 100% a plant as well, BTW. Also, Paramore was a manufactured band too, but they have some great songs IMO.

your just jealous because she is far more popular, has more fame and just better than you sorry.

I think fantano is an industry plant. Never heard of Independent artists? They exist but few are willing to put in the work?

I’m so fucking tired of musicians having to have an “origin story”. Shit comes from talent shows REQUIRING you have a sob story. Fucking HATE origin stories.

God fucking damn you sheep. Seriously.

I mean just think about this the music Industry if you keep going your gonna make it to the top but then slowly fall down because you gotten old and lost your flow or something like that but then the new rappers or singers come in and take over while people forget you tbh about the music Industry isn’t the best you get worked til you drop dead or quit they use you for your money but we have to accept the fact that people are just some Manipulate it to thinking that they can relate and someone who is a industry plant Because the record labels wanted to put Portrayed this put as being depressed because most teenagers or half of them or say yeah I can relate and listen to them all the time then she will get to the top of the Record labels after she Reach the top they won’t need her anymore because they have all the money and then they’ll push her down leaving her broke and everyone for not caring for her Then after that the new Industry plant will come in and take over in the cycle happens over and over don’t call me crazy but they really do🤷🏽‍♀️

Here me out I'm sure 88.8888889% of Billie Eilish fans are 14 year old girls who are "depressed"

People are like "And what? I don't care, she is a good singer." Wtf? Nah. She's mumbling or whispering with weird accent, not so good singing technic and untrained voice. I went to a music school and I knew girls that sing twice as good as her.

But did they have a brother who could write music and afford recording equipment, and parents who were already actors in LA with connections, and also kept their kids out of school just so they could pursue fame also?

Why

Don't kid yourself, all Pop music is an 'industry plant'. Has been since the Monkey's. It's all about image, NOT the music.

Bald but nah idk

25%- "industry plants must die!"

75%- "she/he has a good voice so I don't care"

She's famous because of her Tumblr aesthetic.. if you've ever been in the teenage girl part of Tumblr, they all act and dress just like she does

Julian Casablanca was one of them. Beastie Boys also came from privileged backgrounds.

Truthfully, I don't think Billie is a 'plant' Here's why;
(this is all my opinion of course, but i'm very open minded so feel free to digress.)

Yes, her parents were both in the industry, and yes her brother is a very experienced songwriter/producer.

But...has she ever denied that? Has she ever gave a different story?

I've watched plenty of interviews with Billie and from what I've seen, Billie has never gave off the impression that she is a 'DIY' artist. She almost always credits her brother FINNEAS and her parents, they're almost always right beside her anyways.

In my opinion, a true Industry Plant is a 'nobody' with literally no opportunities to their name who a label/music group/talent agency picks up and gives everything to. (money, advertising, connections, etc)

the difference here is that Billie was BORN with the tools / opportunities to be a big artist eventually (money, connections...etc..) and had lots of people to help her who had industry experience (her parents / her brother) but she wasn't 'planted' into the industry per-se.

-- TL;DR
--
Yes, she's not a homegrown DIY artist who's a solo musical genius that worked for years but she's also been open about the help / opportunities she's gotten from her brother and family numerous times whereas most "industry plants" simply shy away from the topic or ignore it completely.

It only takes that much wealth to break into the Popular industries.
On the other hand, if you don't mind not being top level pro produced, or even prefer to do things independently (a misnomer because it actually is way more of a community thing if you want to succeed), there are always ways to get heard. You can be as weird as you want, too.
It just has to vibe with people. :)

Billie Eilish is a human, not a plant.

i dont think you understand what he means by industry plant lol

There's a difference between an industry plant and a talentless hack that had daddy buy her a record deal. I think her writing and passion for music is authentic, she just had an easy start which isn't part of the "Musician Aesthetic."

This applies to white artist not black bro. Name me a rapper or rnb singer who comes from a wealthy background? I'll wait

I find her to be really catchy and I really like the writing and production by her brother. She grew up with showbusiness contacts, not sure what "Industry plant" even means.

To me shes just another tatted face in a sea of talentless soundcloud rappers.
