The situation in Venezuela is rapidly deteriorating, but Elliott Abrams is rebooting his Iran-Contra game plan from the 80s. Totally boss and/or incredibly frightening!

Steal an election? crimes against humanity? drug trafficking? Wow didn't expect Samantha Bee to drink the Kool-Aid of the violent right wing and American media assault. Very disappointed in this part of the comment which otherwise speaks truth. Thumbs down.

Thank you, Sam, for speaking out about this.
Only the Venezuelan people should be involved in choosing their leadership, whether they prefer Maduro, or Guaidó, or someone else - Not Donald Trump, and not the President of the National Assembly in an unilateral and arbitrary decision.
The public - all of the public, including the poor who want to see their Bolivarian rights preserved, should make such decisions.

America has a long history of interfering in Venezuela, much like Russia is suspected of having interfered in the US, but more so - Maduro has played a big part in failing Venezuelan democratic norms, but his party and his voters are terrified of what happens if an American puppet regime takes over, as they did under Elliott Abrams in other countries, where thousands of people were murdered and the rights of workers, women, and indigenous people were abolished. That history is what has led to this extreme crisis.

America needs to BACK OFF in order to allow a transition back to the normal democratic processes, and such a transition should be headed, ideally, by someone who can be a temporary consensus leader, not picked by me or the US or anyone outside Venezuela.

And for anyone who says that Maduro's party should be excised entirely (as opposed to just Maduro, or anyone in his government that may have committed any crimes), you're talking about denying the votes of the vast majority of poor and indigenous Venezuelans, people who prospered in all the "Pink Tide" governments in South America, and who are only asking not to be returned to grinding poverty. The deserve a government they can trust to care for their interests - and in a democracy, it's up to Maduro's rivals to prove they can be trusted with power, as much as it is Maduro's fault that he isn't doing this very well now.

What do you mean no one knew Guiado, Foreign Affairs Minister Crystia Freeland helped him cross borders with 'quiet diplomacy'.

Maduro did NOT steal the election. They requested UN observers to monitor the election but the U.S. pressured the U.N. to refuse. Independent observers from other countries confirmed that the election was legit. Corruption is endemic to South American politics unfortunately. Charges against specific politicians are levied for purely political reasons. For example, the charges against Dilma Rousseff and Lula in Brazil. "Anti-corruption" weaponized by the center right (who engaged in far more corruption than the workers party) to depose the left.

Venezuela is not that complicated if you actually read the history. The economic strife is manufactured by U.S. backed corporations in Venezuela manipulating the prices of goods as well as U.S. sanctions compounding the misery. It's the well-known playbook the U.S. uses to destabilize any countries in the global South that dare flirt with socialism. "Make the economy scream!" they say. Please, Samantha. Please read the history of the U.S. involvement in South America over the decades.

TULSI GABBARD FOR PRESIDENT 👸👸👸

Look at all those overweight starving people. We don't need to make reaches and go with some lies to acknowledge Maduro's presidency has problems and appear "balanced". It's still propaganda, let's talk about real issues like lack of economic diversity not lies like calling him a dictator where people get to have unmolested protests calling Maduro a mfer and elections more fair and free than USA elections. Sad.

Samantha, you should’ve included the clip in this segment where Ilhan Omar drills him brutally during the Congress hearing. Just to demonstrate that not everybody in Washington likes him.

You just lost all credibility here! Spreading your anti Madura propaganda! 🇻🇪

Most of what you said is true, but the election of Nicolas Maduro was deemed fair by international observers. In fact the electoral system in Venezuela is amongst the best, if not the best in the World. If large elements of the opposition did not participate it was because they knew they would lose. Opposition that did participate and lost declared the election fair. Where the stuff about Maduro drug dealing etc., came from is bizarre. Yes things are bad there, but the US has worked tirelessly through subversion and attempted previous coups and assassination attempts to seize Venezuela oil and other assets and to place them in the hands of it's own companies, simply because it wants to ensure US hydrocarbon security into the future with the biggest oil reserves in the World which are in Venezuela. Of course putting dollars in the elites pockets is up there with it. Certainly not the interests of the people of Venezuela. The US has placed sanctions on Venezuela for many years, even though Venezuela has only wanted to sell oil to the US and has never threatened to attack the US.

I can't believe moderates (left and right) are defending this guy from rep. Ilhan Omar. "Oh he might have been responsible for the slaughter of millions, but she's attacking him for being a well known Jew!!"

why do you say Maduro is a dictator ? he ran for the office in 2013 and won, and yes the last election in 2018 had many issues , many oposition parties didn't participate ( many but not all), anyway Maduro got 31 % in the popular vote and the voter turnout fell to 58% ( higher in venzuelan history) and guess what, in the last US presidential election , Trump got 46% popular vote ( Clinton won) and voter turnout fell 57% , the fact is US is meddleing in foreign affairs as always

What ever you may say. he can get things done. even Trump did not like him. Still he got the job.... but he is the man to quarterback this game
