You described Charlotte cutting and getting ECT as her being coo coo. THIS is why there's a mental health stigma lol

I still have so many questions about this movie

"ending explained" more like "here is the ENTIRE plot of the movie with no explanation of the ending whatsoever, except what we've already seen" 🙄

In my opinion, the movie should've stay contained in China.

I think it was a great depiction of how art is very brutalized. This story was very warped ( and I love that) but it did have too many layers

Netflix is just going with the "aesthetically pleasing but nonsensical and poor quality" trope now

Dude you and your new haircut need to relax, it’s a movie, you’re expected to suspend reality. It was shocking, smart and full of completely unexpected twists. I was entertained.

Well, I could tell from the previews that the worms where an obvious set up by Charlotte to get Lizzy to cut off her hand and end her ability to play. Otherwise there would have been more in the previews about the worms, and she looked jealous in the previews too. Also, prestigious places have elites, in other words, very free people making it to the top. This is what makes whatever they do seem more valuable. It's perfect because that makes it easier to brainwash and abuse. Less people to report. Also it makes tons of sense that is regular people are not going to report abuse that you can bet that brainwashed people definitely would not report their abuse. They are BrAiNwAsHeD so why would they not repeat and even defend the abuse when normal people do that shit all the time. I like ending explained, and I think that cutting her arm off was extreme. Though they where in an extreme situation that did not have enough time in the movie or for the characters themselves. To think that this has never happened before, would not happen on a smaller/larger scale, and that it makes absolutely no sense is extremely naive. They probably would not have had many views if they advertised the story being as it is, though being seen as over-the-top is not good either. There are a lot of people who act like prestigious company/schools in the spotlight would abuse their people/kida is rare and would say it was over-the-top no matter what. Just have to watch some interviews of Corey Feldman (or those like him) trying to tell people what happened to them and see all the strong opposition. I know 11 people, 2 turned into abusers and 4 actual family's want to not report it, have the victim forgive and be around their abuser, and for everything just to go back to normal. So if you have lots of money to give out, lots of power, you can definitely hide in plain sight and get away with it, and others will help you. Nobody really wants to face it, another reason the movie glossed over it- that and seeing sexual abuse is gross. Sexual abuse never makes sense, all the excuses the predictors make are always bullshit, so the story would not need a good reason. There is no good reason. In the end all abuse is not about all of what the monster will do to the victim for 30 seconds of blood flow in their neither regions, but it is about the long term effects of the victim having to live afterwards. All the mental, physical, and emotional instability hiding under the surface of normalcy. It's really perfect for everyone but the main characters. The ending was about them working together for them, not for him and his nonsense. If he really cared about perfection and not just using it as an excuse, he would not have repeated the abuse. He would have not justified his father's actions or threatened the little girl. Also, she played in the room like them, if he didn't abuse her then, he would have abused her later when 'god' blah, blah bullshit excuse. I understand the movie's way of going about presenting the story was probably painful to watch (with the uncomfortable subject and rewinds) but the story itself was actually better than you are giving it credit for.

I actually really admire how many movies are made like this, confusing, awkward, outrageous, grotesque, and a turn of events. I think that movies like this insight more discomfort and fear than science fictional movies because as insane as the events in this movie are, its barely, if even, off from reality. Some parts are dramatic sure, but the idea of sexual abuse in various forms, as well as manipulation to this extreme is incredibly common but hidden in our everyday world.

I have a love/hate relationship with this film
On one hand, I think the imagery is super cool and I really like the concept
Plus there are very few queer centric horror movies, so I’m always down for that
But the writing and editing really is just… oof

I personally loved this movie, its one of my favorite horror/thriller etc. movies. It reminds me a lot of korean/asian cinema, like tale of two sisters. The director/writer (i think) was inspired by korean films and i think it really shows
